Message of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, on the Occasion of Republic Day

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, May 28

Message on the Occasion of Republic Day

We extend our Patriarchal blessings to the sons and daughters of our people in the Homeland and across the Diaspora, and convey our congratulations on the occasion of Republic Day.

Today, we commemorate the heroic battles of May 1918—the unwavering will, spirit of unity, and valiant struggle of our people, through which the First Republic of Armenia was proclaimed. After centuries of interruption, Armenian statehood was restored on our ancestral soil, guided by a vision to build a life of dignity, security, and hope for the future.

At this moment, as our people confront new trials and bear the heavy consequences of a disastrous war and the occupation of Artsakh, the message of May 28 once again resounds with unshakable truth: a people can triumph when united in purpose, aspiration, and hope. Our independence is the sacred legacy of our forefathers—one that we are called to cherish and, through shared effort, to continue strengthening, that our homeland may flourish and our statehood be fortified.

On this festive day, we offer prayers for the peace and well-being of our people worldwide, for the strength of our armed forces, and the security and advancement of our state. May the valor of our ancestors inspire us to believe in our strength, to unite around our homeland and common purpose, and to dedicate our efforts to the defense of our national rights and interests.

May the grace, love, and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all, now and always. Amen.
