Armenian Apostolic Holy Church Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns and expresses profound indignation regarding the initiation of criminal proceedings against His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, as well as the prohibition preventing His Holiness from leaving the territory of the Republic of Armenia, imposed by the RA Prosecutor’s Office.

These actions against the Catholicos of All Armenians are unfounded, unlawful, and clearly politically motivated.

Through this manifestly unconstitutional and illegal interference in the internal affairs of the Church, the authorities are obstructing the pastoral work of the Supreme Patriarch.

This also represents a blatant disregard for millions of faithful and for the centuries-old institution that has been and remains an unwavering pillar of Armenian statehood.

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin calls for the immediate review of the illegal decisions made against the Catholicos of All Armenians, the six bishops who are members of the Supreme Spiritual Council, and the Secretary. These decisions sow division within our society and undermine the authority, credibility, and prestige of our homeland.
