Catholicos of All Armenians Participates in the Final Farewell and Funeral Ceremonies of Pope Francis 26.04.2025

On April 26 of this year, in Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican, the final farewell and funeral ceremonies for the late Pope Francis, Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, were solemnly held. His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, was present at the sacred rites.

During the funeral ceremony, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated, during which the heads and representatives of various Churches offered prayers for the repose and eternal peace of Pope Francis, who has fallen asleep in the Lord.

On the preceding day, within the Basilica of Saint Peter, the Patriarch of All Armenians offered a private prayer for the repose of Pope Francis’s soul.

Accompanying His Holiness were members of the delegation: His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Pontifical Legate of Western Europe and Representative of the Catholicos of All Armenians to the Vatican; His Eminence Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, Chancellor of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin; His Grace Bishop Mushegh Babayan, Director of the Administrative Department of the Mother See; and the Very Reverend Father Garegin Hambardzumyan, Director of the Inter-Church Relations Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
