Divine Liturgy Celebrated in the Mother Cathedral in Memory of St. Vardan the Commander and 1,036 Martyrs

The warriors who perished in the Battle of Avarayr in 451 are venerated as Holy Martyrs. Vardan Mamikonian and his companions fought to defend the Christian faith, their homeland, and national identity. Two days before the Feast of St. Vardanants, the Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs of the Ghevondians—clergymen persecuted after the Vardanants War of 451.
