It was built during the reign of Catholicos Movses III from 1629 to 1632. It was found in a dilapidated state when the dilapidated mud building north of the Old Residence was being demolished. In 1962 it was decided to restore and preserve it, keeping in mind its traditional significance and necessity during church holidays. Architect A.
