According to "Jambr", Catholicos Simeon I of Yerevan ordered to dug many wells in the territory of Mayravank. This small basin is probably one of them that was renovated during the reign of the following Catholicos. It is most likely that this basin was lined with hewn stone at the initiative of Catholicos Nerses V of Ashtarak, following which it received the name Kchya, i.e. Marble. The basin was improved with the donation of Perch Sedrakyan.
