Due to the increase in the number of Seminary students, in 1879 by the order of Catholicos Gevorg IV, His Grace Bishop Khoren Stepane left for Tbilisi to organize a fundraiser for the construction of the dormitory of the Seminary.
The old residence was built next to the student building of the seminary, about 30-40 m to the east. It was nationalized in the Soviet years (in those years, a second floor was added to the first floor).
Following the reopening of the Seminary in 1945, in order to improve the building conditions, Patriarch Gevorg VI appeals to the government of Soviet Armenia with a request to return the educational and dormitory buildings of the Seminary. Soviet officials refuse, saying that it is not possible yet. The building was returned in the 1990s.
