The Open Altar of King Trdat was built in 2001 (architects: Louise Manukyan Simone, architects: Mr. Jim Torosyan, Mr. Romeo Julhakyan) to mark the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Armenia.
The Holy Muron is blessed on the Open Altar, the blessing of the grapes, blessing of the pomegranates and other ceremonies are performed as well in the Open Altar. In front of the Altar, a large space has been created so that a large number of believers can simultaneously participate in religious ceremonies. Adjacent to the Altar, the main entrance to the Mother Cathedral area is built in the same architectural style.
