With deep sorrow, we announce that, following a prolonged illness, Archbishop Kissag Mouradian, one of the senior members of the Monastic Congregation of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, passed away on October 25 at the age of 74.

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and the Monastic Clergy of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin deeply mourn the passing of the late Archbishop Kissag Mouradian.

As we remember his lasting contributions, we honor his memory: may the memory of the righteous be blessed.

Biography of Archbishop Kissag Mouradian

Archbishop Kissag Mouradian was born in 1951 in Aleppo, Syria, and began his religious education at the National Seminary of Qamishli (1956–1963) and St. James Theological Seminary in Jerusalem (1963–1968).

He received his elementary education at the National Seminary of Qamishli, Syria (1956–1963).

From 1963 to 1968, he pursued theological studies at the St. James Theological Seminary in Jerusalem.

In 1968, he was ordained to the Diaconate, and in 1971, he was ordained as a Celibate Priest. In 1975, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite (Vardapet, 4 stages) by His Eminence Archbishop Yegishe Derderian.

From 1975 to 1990, he served as the spiritual pastor of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and as Deputy Director of the preschool department of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Educational Institution.

Between 1982 and 1987, he studied at Kennedy University in Buenos Aires, from which he graduated.

In 1990, through the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Torkom Manoogian, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Archimandrite. He was consecrated as Bishop by His Holiness Vasken I, Catholicos of All Armenians, of blessed memory.

From 1990 to 2022, Archbishop Kissag Mouradian served as the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Argentina.

In 1996, he was elevated to the rank of Archbishop by Patriarchal Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin I, of blessed memory.

From 1998 to 2002, Archbishop Kissag Mouradian served as Chairman of the Committee of Christian Churches in Argentina.
