It is located on the eastern side of the former residence of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary and Khrimyan Hospital (currently "Altitude 5165" Dental Clinic). It was built under the direction of Catholicosic Tenens Archbishop Gevorg Surenyants, No. 1475. The sponsor is Varvare Kananyan from Moscow, benefactor of the Mother See, who in memory of his late son, donated 30 thousand rubles to Holy Etchmiadzin.
The foundation blessing service was held in September 1911, the Feast of St. Gevork the Warrior, and the opening ceremony was held in October 1913, the Feast of Holy Translators. The building (author of the project: architect V. Mirzoyan) was built for the students of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary as a workshop and at the same time a pedagogical museum.
On December 21, 1917 after the closing of the Gevorkian Seminary, it was temporarily used as a gathering place for the bishops of the Mother See and a meeting place of the Etchmiadzin Synod under the direction of the highest spiritual authority (the name of the current Synod building is due to the last fact).
From 1920 to 1921 the building was confiscated by the Soviet authorities of Armenia.
It was returned to the Mother See by the decision of the RA Government No. 330 of April 19, 2001.
