The Monastic Council is a permanent governing body of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, which carries out its activities at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The Monastic Council was instituted in 2000 by the directive of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
The functions of the Council are set forth by the bylaw of the Armenian Apostolic Church and exercised within the framework of the authority delegated by the Catholicos of All Armenians.
The Monastic Council oversees the current activities of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, conducts inspections as appropriate, requests reports on the work of its departments, organizes discussions, and issues directives when necessary.
