Catholicos of All Armenians Welcomes the President of Georgia

On April 29, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin during the latter’s official visit to Armenia.
Welcoming the President’s visit to Armenia and the Mother See, His Holiness reflected on the centuries-old friendship between the Armenian and Georgian peoples. He noted that throughout history, the two nations, united by their Christian faith and shared system of values, have overcome numerous trials and adversities, preserving their national identity and spiritual heritage.
The Catholicos expressed his appreciation to the Georgian authorities for their diplomatic engagement in securing the return of fifteen Armenian prisoners of war and for their continued care and support for the Armenian community in Georgia.
His Holiness also conveyed his fraternal greetings and best wishes to His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
In response, President Kavelashvili expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of his official visit to Armenia and emphasized the pivotal role of the Christian faith in safeguarding the spiritual, cultural, and national identity of both peoples, as well as in confronting historical challenges. He assured the Catholicos that Georgia would continue its active efforts to foster peace and stability in the region and to advocate for the release of prisoners of war.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Kavelashvili, accompanied by clergy, toured the Mother Cathedral and was introduced to the history of the recently restored sanctuary.
Present at the meeting were Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See; Bishop Mushegh Babayan, Director of the Administrative Department of the Mother See; Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia; as well as the ambassadors of Armenia and Georgia.
