Catholicos of All Armenians Receives the Metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas 11.07.2016

On July 11, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, and his clergy delegation. They were accompanied by His Eminence Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New Nakhijevan.

Archbishop Yezras presented Metropolitan Georgy to His Holiness, and reflected on the pilgrimage of the Metropolitan’s delegation to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin; as well as the close cooperation of the Armenian Church with the Metropolitan. In his remarks, Archbishop Yezras noted that Metropolitan Georgy had always participated in the important events in the life of the Armenian community, such as the consecration of the Armenian Church in Nizhny Novgorod.

Welcoming Metropolitan Georgy, His Holiness reflected on the warm relations between the Armenian Apostolic and Russian Orthodox Churches. The Catholicos of All Armenians noted with satisfaction the existing fraternal love and cooperation between the two Pontiffs, which is reflected in the inter-diocese and inter-community relations of the Churches.

Metropolitan Georgy made remarks of gratitude, assuring His Holiness that being in Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin prompted them to feel at home, resonating with not only the high spiritual values, but also personally experiencing the hospitality of the Armenian people. Metropolitan Georgy greatly emphasized the role of the Armenian Church in the national life, adding that the tree of life of the Armenian people is anchored in the Armenian Church and without those strong roots: faith and the Holy Church, the Armenian people could not survive. In his remarks, the Metropolitan also reflected on the active national- ecclesiastical life of the Armenian community in the region.

Once again conveying his Pontifical appreciation to Metropolitan Georgy and the clergy delegation, His Holiness expressed confidence that they will be greatly impressed by their pilgrimage to the holy places, taking back with them unforgettable memories.

At the conclusion, the spiritual servants of the Russian Church performed different spiritual and folk songs.
