18.09.2025
From September 15 to 17, the Conference of European Churches (CEC) held its assembly in Nyborg, Denmark, under the theme “Towards a Christian Citizenship of Europe.”Organized by the National Council of Churches in Denmark and the CEC, the event gathered representatives from across Europe to discuss shaping Christian citizenship in contemporary Europe. With the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Armenian Church was represented by His Grace Bishop Tiran Petrosyan, Patriarchal Delegate for Central Europe and the Scandinavian Countries. His Grace delivered a presentation entitled “Towards a Christian Citizenship of Europe: Reflections from Armenia,” in which he shared the Armenian Church’s rich experience and vision in advancing justice, dignity, peace, and democratic values. The choice of Nyborg as the venue also carried symbolic significance: the city is one of the key centers of Denmark’s Reformation history, and it was there in 1959 that the CEC first launched its peacemaking initiatives. As a result of the gathering, participants resolved to pursue joint initiatives and deepen cooperation among European churches. They also affirmed the importance of renewing the churches’ mission in addressing contemporary challenges, agreeing to promote a clearer understanding and more active practice of Christian citizenship rooted in justice, freedom, and dignity.
