26.08.2025
From August 18 to 24, Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, hosted an Ecumenical Week under the theme “Time for God’s Peace”, marking the 100th anniversary of the historic 1925 Ecumenical Conference of Stockholm, which heralded a promising beginning for the modern ecumenical movement. The event was organized by the Council of Churches of Sweden.
Thousands of participants, including global and national church leaders, theologians, ecumenical activists, and scholars of religion, joined the week’s diverse program, which featured seminars, academic and theological sessions, plenary meetings, prayer services, and cultural events. The discussions addressed pressing contemporary issues such as peace, justice, and Christian unity, highlighting the continued relevance of these questions a century after the first conference.
With the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin was represented by His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisian, Director of the Department of External Relations and Protocol, and Rev. Fr. Garegin Hambardzumyan, Director of the Department of Inter-Church Relations.
