Catholicos of All Armenians Received Congressman Jim Costa

On July 21, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received California Congressman Jim Costa, of the U.S. House of Representatives. He was accompanied by Honorary Consul Berj Apkarian, of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Fresno, California.
Welcoming the guests, His Holiness extended his personal appreciation and Pontifical blessings to Congressman Costa for the respect shown towards the Armenian people and the supportive activities that had been implemented. The Catholicos of All Armenians singled out his efforts in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and for the benefit of the Artsakh people's just rights protection.
In this regard, His Holiness also stressed the importance of the support provided by the other members of Congress and wished through prayers the Almighty God to effectiveness their noble efforts.
In turn, the member of the US Congress assured His Holiness that the Armenians and the problems of the Armenian community in the US were part of his interest, and is willing to support to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Reference was made to the current challenges facing humanity; the three-day visit of Pope Francis to Armenia; and the difficult situation in the Middle East. The Armenian Pontiff stressed the importance of giving a true assessment to the crimes committed against various nations in building a just and peaceful world. During the conversation His Holiness stressed the need to find a fully peaceful resolution to the current situation occurring in Yerevan over the last several days.
The meeting was attended by His Eminence Archbishop Yeznik Petrosyan, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Armenia.
