Statement
24.09.2025
Today’s court verdict, which found Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan guilty on clearly fabricated charges, has dealt a severe blow to justice in Armenia and to the authority of its judicial institutions.
In an atmosphere of persistent hatred and repression, this shameful judicial act has once again confirmed that the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia remains entirely subject to the will of the political authorities.
It is with deep regret that we note that justice in our homeland is selective and, through arbitrary decisions, is openly used to serve political vengeance.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strongly condemns this unlawful process and will employ all legal means available to restore justice for Archbishop Mikael.
We pray that the Lord may strengthen and uphold Archbishops Mikael and Bagrat, the eminent benefactor of the nation Mr. Samvel Karapetyan, and all those unlawfully deprived of their freedom.
“For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.” (Psalm 11:7)
